Rajinikanth not only a superstar, he is the legend of indian cinema. His fans admire him as GOD, Rajinikanth original name Shivaji Rao Gaekwad was born on 12 December 1950 in a Marathi family to Ramabai a housewife, and Ramoji Rao Gaekwad a police constable. He is the youngest of four siblings in a family consisting of two elder brothers, Satyanarayana Rao & Nageshwara Rao and a sister Aswath Balubhai
He lost his mother at the age of five, his schooling was started at the Acharya Patasala in Bangalore after that moved to Vivekananda Balak Sangh which is a unit of the Ramakrishna Mission. when young Rajinikanth did many odd jobs, including that of a coolie. He was working as a bus conductor before he entered into film industry.
His best friend Raj Bahadur is the main person who encouraged him to achive his dream of becoming an actor. He started his acting career with mythological stage play in kannada and his role was Duryodhana. Seeing his performance director K Balachander asked him to learn tamil. Rajinikanth best friend Raj Bahadur who was his colleague while working as bus conductor encouraged him to enrol in the Madras Film Institute.
Rajinikanth made his debut in the Tamil film industry with Balachander’s Apoorva Raagangal, which also starred Kamal Haasan from there he never turned back. A carpenter turned coolie turned conductor turned into a Super Star. Rajinikanth’s first big commercial success was Billa. Rajini played triple role in Moondru Moogam for which he was awarded as Best Actor from the Tamil Nadu government.
Most of Rajinikanth films have message oriented like family values, respecting elders, doing charity, spiritual and lot more. Rajinikanth who is famous in flipping a cigarette and catching it in his lips in many of his blockbuster films requested his fans and all the people to be away from smoking.
Rajinikanth stopped celebrating his birthday since 2012 because three of his fans met with an accident after returning from Rajinikanth’s Birthday celebrations.
Rajinikanth married Latha Rangachari, a student of Ethiraj College for Women, who interviewed him for her college magazine. The marriage took place on 26 February 1981, in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The couple have two daughters named Aishwarya Rajinikanth and Soundarya Rajinikanth. Latha runs a school named “The Ashram”.
In 2016 Rajinikanth recieved Padma Vibhushan award by Government of India
